What is International GCSE?

The International GCSEs are the most commonly studied curriculum around the world. They are based on the UK high school education system and are adapted for a global student base.

Students usually begin in Year 10 or 11 by sitting a minimum of 4-5 subjects. These subjects are structured as first introductions to the specific topic areas that they cover. In certain countries, students begin in Year 10 and sit 8-10 subjects over the course of two years.

PROGRESSION

AS and A Levels in English Language and other subjects.

Basis of what you will learn in iGCSE English Language

Study on this course centres on an Edexcel anthology featuring a varied selection of  short non-fiction and fiction texts.  The material covers themes such as climate change, discrimination, travel and adventure, family relationships and the experience of refugees.  Students explore and analyse the structure and language of the texts in this collection and other pieces selected from a range of sources to extend and develop their ideas and experience of different genres.  There is also a substantial creative component to this course in which students use their knowledge about the ways in which professional writers' convey meaning to create their own texts.

Vikki Adams

My name is Vikki Adam and I am an English teacher currently based in NZ.

I began my teaching career nearly twenty years ago here in NZ. I taught NCEA English (Levels One to Three) and Social Studies for six years. I then moved to Brunei Darussalam where I taught AS and A Level English for twelve years up until I moved back to NZ in December 2020. Although I really loved teaching in Brunei, I am glad to be home and very excited to be joining CGA!

I have a BA with a double major in Literature and History, a Graduate Diploma of Teaching and an MA in Teaching English as a Second Language. I also have a CELTA, a DELTA and I am an IELTS examiner. Recently, I was awarded the English Speaking Union Award for Teachers for 2020 from Victoria University.
